| Meet Our Staff Gary A. Marshall, DVM
Dr. Marshall is a 1989 graduate of the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He has been working in the field of companion animal health since 1979. Dr. Marshall is a lifelong Eastside resident and has enjoyed bringing the first feline-exclusive practice to Mercer Island. His special area of interest is feline geriatrics, prolonging and enhancing your cat’s senior years.
Dr. Marshall is married and has two children. They have a “special needs” cat at home--Jicama is diabetic and infected with the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Hayla Smith, RVT
Hayla has been a member of the Island Cats team since 1998, and has more than 15 years experience in animal health. Hayla is a registered veterinary technician and assists the veterinarians with treatments, dentistry, surgery, radiology, and feline patient care. She has a special interest in feline behavior and nutrition.

Amy Koeniger, Practice Manager
Amy started in veterinary medicine in 1991 in Anchorage, AK. After graduating from Linfield College in 1997, Amy moved up to Seattle and found a feline-only practice to join. It was at this practice that she adopted the love if her life, ancient Miss B. Amy has been a veterinary practice manager since 2001 and graduated from AAHA & Purdue University's Veterinary Management Institute. Amy and her husband have 3 cats, Butch Kitty, Nicodemus, and li'l ol' lady Cal. Amy said goodbye to her 23 year-old Miss B in 2006. She will always have a soft spot for the old, crotchety calicos who need some extra special loving. When she's not scritchin' kitty cheeks, Amy studies Filipino martial arts and stick fighting in Seattle and squeezes in time for her husband, also a martial artist and kitty lover.

Cindy Haney, Veterinary Assistant
Cindy likes getting to know the individual personalities of every cat that comes in. She also enjoys assisting with dentals, anesthesia, grooming, radiology and other procedures. Cindy especially likes caring for elderly cats, who often need extra attention. Cindy has a way with all of the patients who visit Island Cats with her compassionate touch and easy handling of the kitty patients. Impressively, she is the guru of information regarding all of our boarding clients as she remembers every cat's special nuances that allow an individual experience. Cindy has been a part of the Island Cats staff since January 2002. Before that, she had many years' experience in the pet care and grooming fields.
At home, Cindy has two cats, Blacky and Timmy, and one dog, Molly (a Chihuahua/ Dachshund mix).

Dana Svenson, Veterinary Assistant & Receptionist
Dana has been with Island Cats since Fall of 2005. She enjoys getting to know the Island Cats regulars, and learning about all aspects of veterinary medicine. In dual roles, Dana is an integral member of the Island Cats team, taking care of both the cats as well as their people. At home, Dana lives with two cats, Koshka and Cleopatra Jones.

Cheryl Commons, Veterinary Assistant
Cheryl lives in Bellevue with her cat Drusilla. She is originally from California, but has lived in the Seattle area for eight years. Cheryl is a graduate of the University of Washington. Before coming to Island Cats, Cheryl spent several years in Prague, Czech Republic, teaching English. Cheryl has a soft heart and an easy touch with the patients and boarders of Island Cats. She combines this with her intelligence and impressive thirst for knowledge that will take her far in veterinary school. Drusilla is a brown tabby cat who adopted Cheryl about four years ago. In their free time, Cheryl and Drusilla enjoy traveling.

Biscuit, Office Cat
On Friday, October 24th 2008, we lost our beautiful Biscuit. She went into irreversible heart failure and at 5:15p.m. we said goodbye to our beloved Bickie. Biscuit was twelve years old and had a history of asthma compunded with heart issues. Biscuit spent all twelve of her years with us here at Island Cats and she will be greatly missed. Despite her sassy nature, she loved all of the clients and staff of Island Cats. We thank you for your love and attention for our special girl all of these years. Get to know Biscuit! We lost loveable Blue Sky in August of 2008 to advanced kidney disease. We adopted Blue Sky into our Island Cats family exactly one year earlier at age eleven. He had kidney insufficiency when we adopted him was fabulous for his medications and fluid therapy. From his perch at the window, Blue Sky waited for unsuspecting humans to solicit, seeking warm laps and endless snuggles.
